Adaptive Immersion Unveils MAVEN Broken Arrow, Bringing Realism and Repetition to the Most Dangerous Missions in Defense Training

Adaptive Immersion Technologies announced the debut of MAVEN Broken Arrow, an immersive virtual reality (VR) training system that makes one of the most complex and high-consequence missions, nuclear response, safe, repeatable and accessible for warfighters and first responders. The system will be demonstrated throughout I/ITSEC at Booth 161 in Orlando, December 1-4.
Designed to replicate the full scope of Broken Arrow and related nuclear or Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) incidents, MAVEN provides operators with realistic, hands-on practice for reconnaissance, render-safe procedures and recovery operations in a controlled environment. The system mirrors real-world mission conditions, enabling teams to rehearse hazardous tasks that are typically difficult or dangerous to conduct live.
“MAVEN transforms the way high-risk nuclear response missions are trained,” said Phillip Mangos, CEO and chief scientist at Adaptive Immersion. “This is a mission set where repetition matters, but live training opportunities are scarce. MAVEN delivers that repetition without the danger. It gives operators a place to build the confidence, precision and decision-making skills needed when lives and national security are on the line.”

MAVEN combines immersive realism, safe procedural repetition and mission-accurate task training. The system supports operators across mission types and specialties, including Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) units, nuclear weapons specialists, emergency managers and expeditionary response teams.
To meet modern readiness requirements, MAVEN offers:
- A virtual environment replicating the complexity of nuclear response missions
• Unlimited, risk-free repetitions to build memory and decision-making skills under stress
• Realistic task and equipment interaction that mirrors actual operating conditions
• Team-based coordination across multiple response specialties
• Customizable scenarios that reflect diverse environments and mission demands
• A modular, open design that aligns with future simulation tools, performance analytics and distributed training environments
Adaptive Immersion developed MAVEN Broken Arrow to address a longstanding training challenge. Nuclear response missions are “high stakes and low frequency,” which makes it difficult for operators to gain the repetition needed to master proficiency. MAVEN supplements limited live exercises with a scalable, immersive training environment that strengthens operator performance and unit readiness.
“As the defense community looks toward 2026 and beyond, MAVEN provides the kind of flexible, high-fidelity training capability needed for evolving mission demands,” Mangos said. “It gives teams the advantage of learning, rehearsing and mastering their tasks before they ever step into a real-world scenario.”
MAVEN Broken Arrow is available now for commercial deployment, with custom variants underway to support additional nuclear, radiological and full scope EOD mission areas.
